Shekhar Babu is a dedicated Indian mountaineer whose journey has been defined by resilience, humility, and an unwavering love for the mountains. His introduction to high-altitude climbing began in 2002 with an ascent of Mt. Baby Shivling as part of his Advanced Mountaineering Course. Since then, he has steadily carved a path through some of the world’s highest and most challenging peaks.
Over the years, Shekhar has successfully summited notable mountains such as Mt. Imja Tse (Island Peak), Mt. Chulu West in winter, Mt Shishapangma Central and Mt. Everest, which he first summited in 2007. He has also taken on ambitious climbs on Mt. Cho Oyu and Mt. Makalu, reaching impressive altitudes and leading multiple expeditions in the Himalayas. His experience spans not just summits but also key leadership roles — serving as Expedition Leader on several Everest expeditions.
In recognition of his achievements, Shekhar was awarded the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award, India’s highest honor in adventure sports, presented by the President of India.
With more than two decades of hands-on expedition experience, Shekhar has trained over 30,000 young people in mountaineering and guided more than 100 climbers to the summit of Everest. But what truly sets him apart is his humility and deep belief in the power of the outdoors to transform lives.
Today, as the founder of Transcend Adventures, Shekhar continues to lead with quiet determination — mentoring climbers, advocating for safety and sustainability, and opening the world of high-altitude mountaineering to those who dream of standing on the world’s highest peaks.
