Overview of Mt.Nun (7135m)

Ladakh! The northern most region of India and often touted as the ‘Frozen Desert’! The region has one of magnificent mountain ranges of the world with the Karakoram ranges on the west and the Himalaya on the north, stretching all the way to the east. Our expedition starts in Leh, the headquarters of Ladakh.

Located in the Suru valley of the Kargil district, Mt.Nun stands tall at 7135m/23409ft, it is the highest peak of the Zanskar range. It’s neighboring peak is Mt.Kun (7077m) and is located towards the north of Mt.Nun, separated by a snowy plateau.

Climbing Mt.Nun is a very challenging endeavor and requires prior mountaineering experience. It is by no means a beginner’s peak. The minimum pre-requisites required for climbing this peak are:

Itinerary

Arrival in Leh (3500m):
Team Transcend Adventures will receive you at airport and transfer you to the hotel. Pick-up
vehicle and the hotel rooms will be sanitized prior to your arrival. The remainder of the day
will be spent for acclimatization. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Meals: Dinner

Acclimatization in Leh:
Medical check followed by a sumptuous breakfast. Hiking for acclimatization and local sight visit. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Drive to Kargil (2676m):
Post breakfast, we embark on a 250m/7-8hr drive to Kargil. We shall be having lunch en route. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Drive to Tangol (3700m):
Today we drive to the last road head, to the village of Tangol. The drive will take about 4-5 hours and we shall spend the remainder of the day acclimatizing and resting. Overnight stay in tents/huts.

Trek to Mt.Nun base camp (4500m):
The day we start hiking towards our next destination, the base camp of our mountain. This involves about 5-7 hrs trekking on well-established trails. Overnight stay in tents.

Acclimatization Day at Base Camp

Climb to Camp-1 (5468m):
The route involves climbing scree slopes and rocky moraine before reaching a glacier. Afterward,
we will use 250m of fixed lines to climb and negotiate crevasses. We will establish Camp 1 on a
vast snow plateau. Total time will be about 5-6 hrs.

Acclimatization days and load ferry.

Climb to Camp-2 (5990m)
The route involves mixed climbing on snow, ice and rock. You will use fixed lines to reach Camp 2
on a crevassed col. Total time taken will be about 6-8 hrs.

Climb to Camp-3 (6436m)
The camp-3 will also be our summit camp. The route involves roping up or using fixed lines to
negotiate crevasses. We will climb ice slopes to reach the small plateau of Camp 3. The total
time taken will be about 4-5 hrs.

Summit Day:
We will have a very early start from Camp-3 to reach the summit (7135m) and descend to
Camp-2 (or Camp-1). The total time taken will be in excess of 10 hrs.

Descend to Base Camp

Drive to Kargil:
We start an early morning trek from the base camp to reach our motorhead, back to the
village of Tangol. From here our vehicles will drive you to the hotel in Kargil. Overnight
stay at the hotel.

Drive to Leh:
We drive to the hotel in Leh. Tonight we shall have a farewell dinner at the hotel.

Drop off at the Leh Airport.
